Is home schooling
really beneficial for children?
Introduction
The motive for me to
write this essay is that I am interesting in education; my mother would like to
promote home schooling for people, and my sister may consider home schooling
for her future children. How about me? I think it again and again. First, I
would like to share with you about my experience. I studied in the public
junior high school; there was a home schooling child coming to our class one
day. My classmate criticized the home schooling child that he was so strange
and different from other people. Since he was quite silent, polite and pure,
however; my classmate could not accept this kind of simple boy. He was totally
different from other student in public school. From then, I kept the confusion
that whether home schooling was an eccentric thing and children would isolate
from everyone. While I got the answer this summer camp after communicating with
four homeschooling's families who came from Virginia, I understand the
mechanics and functions about the home schooling; I change my worst stereotype
of home schooling. In addition, I find the research shows that lots of families
cultivate lots of genius in home schooling. According to The Huffington Post
(Klein, 2013 ), they have compiled famous 18 instances where home schooling
seems to have worked exceptionally well. I will introduce these geniuses in the
essay later. I think that these geniuses might have found their goal and aim in
their early ages, in the contrary; I still did not really know what my aim was
in the future in my adolescent age. Since the peer and grade pressure became my
burden in my school life, no teachers had extra time to assist me to develop my
talent. Whereas the homeschooling, it may provide time for children to
cultivate their talent to be exceptional one in early age.

It's a good topic to discuss on, especially if you can talk with people who is homeschooling now. From your word, I feel that you want to stand for the people who study in home and focus on the comparison between
回覆刪除home schooling and public school, but after discuss two thing, I can't figure out what conclusion you want to have. Because according to your topic, "Is home schooling really beneficial for children?", I think there is already the answer. Going to school is a big part of socialization, what if children who experience socialization more lately than other children? Or what if children who experience socialization more early than other children? Why home schooling isn't that popular in Taiwan? Maybe you can think about it. I'm really looking forward your interview with your friend.=)
Thank you for your advice.I will think more about it. And I will try to find out the solution to deal with the problems that people suspect. I am so glad that you are looking forward to the interview of my friends.=)
刪除Maybe school is such a complicated place for certain overprotect parents so they will prefer home schooling. And after reading your article, I have some ideas and thoughts that I think that is not so easy for common people to have homes chooling. The percentage of double-incomes family is increasing so I wonder who or what class of people will have the time teaching their children……
回覆刪除Besides, recently I have taken a course which emphasizes the importance of the functions that school offers. The main function is offering them the environment to experience socialization. So, how to teach the home schooling child socialization is the point I will want to know. Maybe you can have some examples or solutions in your next article. I am interested in your following context.^ ^
Thank you for giving me lots of good thinking. I will try my best to search the information and I will find out new way to solve the problems of home schooling.
刪除The topic is great, especially for people like us not familiar with the form of schooling, since home schooling used to be a trend in western countries but not so common in eastern countries. I've heard as well that lots of children who undergo home schooling have high intelligence; however, I think the causes behind their intelligence are never analyzed or explained clearly. Also, is home schooling applied to eastern countries' education system? The difference between two sides' education way is obviously not alike, making me wonder maybe home schooling doesn't fit in a more conservative educational environment in Asia? Hope there're more related discussion on it!
回覆刪除I will try to interview some families in Taiwan and ask them about their success and difficulties. I will try to find out the causes behind their intelligence clearly. Also, is home schooling applied to eastern countries' education system? I will discuss it in my paper. Thank you very much!
刪除Dear Grace, I think you introduce why you are interested in this topic well, and this is really something you concern about and worth discussed. However, I think you didn’t provide which resource you read clearly. In your article, you should give a brief summary of the resource you find, and then analyze it. You have already found many references, and it’s good. Now you can focus on one or two relative resources that you would like to discuss and that will help you develop point of view. It is too soon to write an abstract and introduction now.
回覆刪除Thank you for reminding me of the form. I will improve it in my revision. I understand the annotation rules after the class. Thank you for your precious advice!
刪除This topic is an issue that I have never thought about and is quite interesting to me because my sister is also a teacher in kindergarten. And I am curious about what kinds of opinion will she get after reading your paper. For me, one of home schooling’s problems is children’s ability to be socialized and to communicate with outer world. I’m looking forward the solution you are going to talk about because a few of my friends meet this kind of problem. In spite of that, you still provide convincible reasons for home schooling and I’m also looking forward to seeing your more proofs of positive.
回覆刪除Thank you for your encouragement. I will try my best to find out new solution!
刪除The popularization of homeschooling has been sustained for a while, yet it was not thoroughly recognized or put in to practice generally, since most country still prefers to educate children in schools. Therefore, I think your topic and personal viewpoint might appear to be interesting whether to those who barely knows anything about homeschooling or to those who devoted to promote homeschooling.
回覆刪除Also, talking about the problems might have happen in homeschooling, I think you can read books such as 《不只是天才》or《教與學的另類可能-在家教育自主學習之個案研究》The first one talks about a whiz kids’ homeschooling experience during his childhood while the second book took another true example of homeschooling and discussed what problems may be faced in homeschooling.
Thank you for your recommencement. I will try to study two books!
回覆刪除It is a great topic which worth discussing very much, for education is one of the issues that we're all going to face whether now or in the future, for most children's education are often be decided by parents. It also touches a sensitive question that how and why people tend to reject and bully those who are considered "different" from other. Home schooling seems to be more popular and accepted in western country, and the difference and characteristic between western and oriental can be looked back into the education system to culture. Hope that can be one of a discussion in your writing! :)
