Is homeschooling just for the richer?
As come to the homeschooling, the financial ability is the critical issue. Financial problem is the common suspect of homeschooling; loss of the salary of parent is the main crisis of the homeschooling. The argument on website called Debatewise is that “homeschooling requires a parent to stay at home resulting in a loss of income.” One parent shall stay at home to educate the children, while the economic pressure and burden completely fall on the other parent. On the other hand, the cost of the tuitions, textbooks and additional cost for “extracurricular activities such as soccer, gymnastics, martial arts, piano lesson” and also the field trips are also the large budget for homeschooling (FamilyEducation). Vicki Bentley reports that “Average homeschool family spends about $900 US dollars for per student per year and homeschooling costs more than public school, but less than private school.”
To sum up, the seven main costs on homeschooling are the curriculum, supplies and equipment. For example, if the child is interested in science, parents may consider buying the books and videos and equipment such as erlenmeyer flask, bunsen burner, test tube clamp and even the expensive Binocular Microscope. Besides, the child may go to attend the science camp or professional training. If the family attends the institute of homeschooling, they shall pay homeschool Group Dues. In addition, the field trips, extracurricular activities and the transportation are the great charges for parents to pay. (Casey Slide)
Consequently, the homeschooling seems only for the high-class family to afford the expense. However, the home Scholar, Lee Binz, points out “there are still some drastic, cost-cutting strategies that will help you survive.” First, parents could teach child by themselves without “a co-op class, an accrediting agency, or a homeschool program.” The free sources of knowledge or information can be retrieved from the public library or Internet. And the books, pencils and papers make the great curriculum. Second, parents could get the purchase of used textbook or the recent version not the newest of textbooks; it can help to save amount of money. Third, parents can try to negotiate that one parent” works during the daytime” and the other works “in the evening” or one parent work “on weekdays” and the other “on weekends.” Fourth, homeschooling families could cope together to teach others.
In conclusion, the homeschooling is not just the privilege for the rich family. The common family or the family without abundant funds could also conduct the homeschooling if the family makes the wisdom decision on expenditure.

    Writer Summary:
Is homeschooling just for the richer?
People will think that only the richer can afford that children educated home. There are many ways and steps to change this kind of concept. Text book, online information and resources in the library can be used in homeschooling. Parents can coordinate the work time, that is one can work on weekdays and the other works on weekend. In the article, I will like to tell that homeschooling is not just the priority for the richer and the rich family.

    Asker summary:
    (A) You say that the financial ability is the crucial issue for homeschooling. And if parents homeschool their children, they do not have income and this may become a problem. The second paragraph you provide us more detailed information and example like what kind of cost would homeschooling parents should pay. You also point out that children may go to science camp professional training if parents do not have income how could they pay for that. There are some solutions to the cost and you just mentioned so I will skip that. In your conclusion you reemphasize that homeschooling is not the only priority to the richer. I think the article is interested for me because it’s a new and make me think about homeschooling. Last time you focus the abusing problem and this time you point out the economic issue. Both of them are totally different thesis, and they are dealing with the two opposing position. There is abundant information to talk about homeschooling. And I think the organization of your article is very good because you use two paragraphs to emphasize the two opposing site. In the conclusion, you give us the solutions and clear examples about the main cost of homeschooling. And you make your reader easily understand your article. In the beginning of second paragraph, you use the phrase “to sum up”, but I think you provide lots of detailed information. The first paragraph is like an opening or the conclusion of the second paragraph.

    Q and A

  2. (A) : In this article, does the author stands at a positive side for homeschooling?
    (W) : The author just want to talk about how many cost will the homeschooling take. In the middle way, just to tell you the information about the cost of homeschooling. the author support that you can have many different ways to cope with this problem.
    (A) : what is Debatewise?
    (w): it’s a website.
    (A) : you said that parents could negotiate that one may take daytime job and they can change turn for having their job but that may cause problems to the society. Because some employers may think you should stay at office or working place a whole day all day to complete their jobs in one day.
    (w) : Maybe they can take a part-time jobs, like Working in the restaurant or in a bakery.
    (A) : Do the salary of part time job enough to afford the cost of homeschooling?
    (W) : They need to try to save the money. The most of the income is from one main parents and the other can just take a part time job. And they can have the plan on it.
    (A) How about the quality of the parents? Are they professional enough to teach their children?
(W): If the parents are not so professional, they can combine with another family. They can have an internet and can read together or have the tutor on the internet.
    (A) : Is it possible that parents go out to work and the tutor stay at home to have online course.
    (W) : I think the answer is not. Because children need to have someone the parents or a real human, the teacher to stay with them and tell them. If both parents go out to work, the children will be left home and feel lonely.
    (A) : I do not understand very much about the sentence : And the books, pencils and papers make the great curriculum. Making the great curriculum is mean that parents should prepare them these things?

    (W) : No, it is an essential tool to learn like we learn at school or cram school we all use these essential tools.
    (A) The conclusion is that give us a good point.
(W); And I also think about that if the children are in a high age, maybe parents can let them make some bakery or job at home make the to save money, if they have extra ability to do something interesting or draw the picture or post card and sell to people. And it can be also kind of solution.
(A): They can save the time to commuter, so they can have more time to do these productive activities. .
